Maximum electric motor efficiency

ITRI in Taiwan – A Thomson Reuters Top 100 Global Innovator – optimized an electric motor it developed for a van of a domestic car manufacturer. ITRI engineers used Optimus to set up and run an automated multiphysics simulation and optimization process.

Optimus successfully steered structural, electromagnetic and thermal simulations toward maximum electric motor efficiency over the entire speed and torque operation range typical for daily city traffic. As a result, the motor optimization project increased the overall efficiency of the electric vehicle (EV) by 4 %.

With Optimus we were able to deliver an optimized EV motor design in a limited time frame – increasing efficiency and range autonomy. I-Wei Lan, Researcher at ITRI (Taiwan)
