The field of external vehicle aerodynamics is advancing rapidly, especially considering the recent integration of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) solvers with digital design and optimization tools alongside and, harnessing the unlimited computational power of cloud computing. With these advancements, engineers are now able to reduce not only the operational cost of the hardware infrastructure but also the computing time by fifty per cent.
In this use case, the aerodynamics performance is simulated, analyzed and tested with a Computer-Aided Design (CAD) model of a car using id8, a cloud-native collaborative digital engineering platform by Noesis Solutions and SimScale, a Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) simulation tool based on cloud computing. Collaboration plays a key role in reducing the time, and improving the efficiency of the design process, as it brings together cross funtional teams to identify insights and knowledge from data with a click of a button, eliminating the manual iteration of simulation cycles.
