TNO engineers sketched the workflow in the Optimus’ graphic process integration editor – connecting their available simulation tools and data models into a formal simulation workflow.

A race against time

Heavy-duty truck manufacturers had little time left to develop powertrain systems that complied with Euro VI emissions legislation, which took effect end of 2013. TNO worked with Optimus design optimization and process integration software in combination with its proven SIMCAT solution for exhaust after treatment modeling. Combined with Optimus, SIMCAT simulations were successfully automated and directed toward an optimal emissions controller design.

A robust controller design

Engineers at TNO also relied on Optimus to make the controller design robust to sensor and actuator inaccuracies. Thanks to the synergies between SIMCAT and Optimus, extreme driveline complexity was successfully managed in an automated fashion. This innovative approach effectively allowed them to meet Euro VI emissions standards faster and at reduced cost.

ULTIMATELY, THIS ENABLED TNO ENGINEERS TO EFFICIENTLY OPTIMIZE A TRUCK EMISSIONS CONTROLLER FOR EURO VI COMPLIANCE - EVEN WITH VERY LITTLE TIME LEFT
